Modified FOPID Controller for Frequency Regulation of a Hybrid Interconnected System of Conventional and Renewable Energy Sources

In this article, a fractional-order proportional-integral-differential (FOPID) controller and its modified structure, called MFOPID controller, are presented. To guarantee optimal system performance, the gains of proposed FOPID controllers well-tuned, employing Jellyfish Search Optimizer (JSO), novel highly effective bioinspired metaheuristic approach. The assessed in hybrid with two domains, where each domain contains conventional (gas, reheat, hydro) renewable generation sources (solar wind). For more realistic analysis, presented model includes practical limitations nonlinear characteristics, such as governor dead zone/band (GDZ/GDB), boiler dynamics, rate limitation/constraint (GRL/GRC), uncertainties, communication time delay (CTD), load changes. suggested methodology outperforms some newly developed heuristic techniques, including fitness-dependent optimizer (FDO), sine-cosine algorithm (SCA), firefly (FA), for interconnected power (PS) regions multiple generating units. Furthermore, is compared JSO-tuned PID/FOPID PI to ascertain superiority. results signify that control method parametric optimization significantly other strategies respect minimum undershoot peak overshoot, settling times, ITSE system’s dynamic response. sensitivity analysis outcomes imply JSO-MFOPID very reliable can effectively stabilize frequency interconnection line multi-area network PS.
